Last month, a team of Acuity Ambassadors were joined by a number of our clients in volunteering their time to support a local charity, the Whitechapel Mission. The Whitechapel Mission has been serving the homeless and marginalised since 1876. Their support includes a day centre, skills training and career advice, activity programmes, and specialist support for complex needs. By encouraging each person to address the issues which caused their homelessness, the Whitechapel Mission aims to help individuals gain the skills and confidence to make lasting changes in their lives.
Acuity, with the support of our clients, volunteered to undertake the Whitechapel Mission’s Clothing Challenge. The clothing challenge consisted of two parts. The first part involved our team receiving the delivery of donations made across the UK. Our team then proceeded to open the sacks of donated clothing, sorting the garments, removing the items that could not be used, and placing the items that could be used into crates of similar items, ready to be washed and pressed.
The second part of the challenge included measuring, tagging, and hanging the clean clothes on appropriate rails ready for distribution. Our team then transferred the clothes rails down to the shower rooms, and once a person had been provided with a cooked breakfast and had taken a shower, they could choose new clothes to wear.
In addition to the Clothing Challenge, our team also supported the sorting of food and toiletry donations to support the Whitechapel Mission’s food bank. Supporting the Whitechapel Mission was such a rewarding day that Acuity has already signed up to support their ‘Breakfast Challenge’ in April 2024. Stay tuned for more on this soon!
